The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy and Action Plan (REEESAP) was adopted in July 2017 in Eswatini by the SADC Ministers responsible for Energy. The document spans the period 2016-2030 and it aims to provide a framework for SADC Member States to develop their own renewable energy and energy efficiency strategies and action plans, leading to greater uptake of RE resources as well as mobilization of financial resources for the sector.

This booklet showcases business opportunities in energy efficiency. It explains several energy efficiency service business models and how they can be used for the benefit of both private and public sector energy users. In addition to benefiting the energy service businesses, energy users and economies of the 21 countries in the EAC and SADC regions, the energy services models can also contribute towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

The purpose of this report is to provide a snapshot of the status quo of power sector planning practices across the 16 SADC region in mid-2021. It presents a high-level analysis of good practices and gaps in each Member State. The analysis of planning practices across the SADC region has shown substantial variation in the breadth of electricity system planning.
