Angola

As of October 2022, Angola had total installed capacity of 6,019.7MW and renewable energy contributes to 57% of the current energy mix. Hydropower constitutes 68%, fossil fuels 31.3% and 0.7% hybrid (solar/fossil fuel). The identified renewable energy potential is from solar 16.3 GW, 3.9 GW wind power, and 18 GW hydropower. The country is targeting to add 800 MW of solar and wind by 2025. 

The Ministry of Energy and Water (Ministério da Energia e Águas, MINEA) is responsible for policy planning and development, and the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT) is the national utility responsible for electricity generation and transmission in the country. The National Programme for Rural Electrification of Rural Areas (PNER) has the mandate to drive rural electrification. Angola is affiliated to the Regional Energy Regulators Association through the Instituto Regulador do Sector Eléctrico (IRSE) and a member of the Southern Africa Power Pool. The Ministry of Energy and Water is SACREEE’s National Focal Institution for Angola. 

The national average energy access rate is 41% of a population of 32.9 million as 74% and 7% of the urban and rural population has access to energy respectively.
