Lesotho

In October 2022, Lesotho had 74MW installed capacity and operating capacity 70MW from hydropower. The Department of Energy (DoE) in the Ministry of Energy and Meteorology (MEM) is responsible for energy policy planning, development and implementation of projects. The Lesotho Electricity Company oversees electricity generation, transmission and distribution.   Lesotho is a member of the Southern Africa Power Pool, and the country is represented on the Regional Energy Regulators Association by theLesotho Electricity and Water Authority (LEWA)

There is potential from hydropower, wind generation, and solar PV. Average energy access rate for Lesotho is 45%.  The access contribution is 69% and rural access stand at 29%.
