Eswatini has an installed capacity of 71MW which is owned and operated by the Eswatini Electricity Commission (EEC), the national utility.  The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy oversees policy development and implementation. The contribution of renewable energy to the energy mix is 67%. The utility has four hydro power station: Edwaleni (15 MW), Maguga (20MW), Ezulwini (20MW) and Maguduza (5.6MW).  It also operates a 13.75MW solar PV which contributes a guaranteed capacity of 10MW to the EEC power grid.  Biomass (bagasse) has potential to contribute significantly to the energy mix. The current access to electricity stands at 84 % of the population. Independent power producers (IPPs) and grid connected captive power projects generate 5% and the balance of the power is imported from South Africa and Mozambique to meet the country’s peak demand of 234MW. Eswatini is a member of the Southern Africa Power Pool and the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (EERA) is a member of the Regional Energy Regulators Association. EERA is the SACREEE National Focal Institution for Eswatini. 

The urban access rate is 92% while that for the rural population is 76%.
