SACREEE was established to contribute towards increased access to modern energy services and improved energy security across the SADC Region through the promotion of market-based uptake of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficient (EE) technologies and energy services.

The SADC region lacks conditions and infrastructure to support clean technology innovations by SMEs. There are very few platforms to identify innovators, develop their ideas and provide them with skills and knowledge and ultimately link them to financing, so that new technologies can be developed, scaled, and launched into the mainstream.

Therefore, SACREEE launched a specific SADC Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Support Facility.

SACREEE’s activities in this area include:

1

Development of a database of priority RE&EE investment projects presenting relevant project data.

2

Providing support to project developers in business plan development, investment pitch, growth strategy, etc. to enhance the possibility of projects reaching financial closures.

3

Organizing investment and business forums (e.g., trade fair) and business-to-business forums to promote trade and investment opportunities in RE&EE in partnership with the Association of SADC Chambers of Commerce.

4

Analysing trends in investments in RE & EE in the region and producing a regular report.

5

Analysing lessons from RE&EE projects in different countries and disseminating them through SADC (possibly in cooperation with Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa), development financial institutions , Global Environment Facility (GEF), etc.).

6

Initiating a regional Cleantech accelerator program for SMEs of SADC countries.
