On 23 June 2020  the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), are organizing a regional meeting to validate the feasibility and viability of a Clean Energy Centre for the ECO region (CECECO).

The SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE) and the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) signed an MoU to establish long term cooperation in areas of mutual interest.  Both institutions have been identified as key players in the soon to be launched Green Hydrogen Atlas project funded by the Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Technology Department of the Germany Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Besides the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic in terms of restriction to organize physical meetings, SACREEE and EACREEE continue supporting the Southern African Development Communities (SADC) and East African Countries (EAC) Member States virtually by addressing the comments provided by the National Technical Committees (TCs) on the draft harmonized MEPS for lighting. A Third Webinar was organized to address these comments and to establish the necessary support required by Member States.

The members of the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC) say farewell to Mr. Mahama Kappiah, Executive Director of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), who was appointed as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of ECOWAS to the United Nations in New York.

The SADC Renewable Energy Entrepreneurship Facility is being implemented in the sixteen-member countries of the SADC and builds on the Memorandum of Understanding between International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE), signed in February 2017, to support renewable energy (RE) market development in the SADC region through capacity building of small and medium sized entrepreneurs (SMEs).
